A card game that can be played with any number of players and involves betting on the outcome of a hand. There are many different poker variants, but they all require skill and strategy to win. Some players are professional, while others play for fun or as a hobby.
To start a round of poker, each player places in the pot some amount of chips (representing money) before being dealt two cards face-down. Depending on the rules of the particular variant being played, one or more players may also have the privilege or obligation to place a blind bet. After the ante and blind bets are placed, the dealer deals each player two cards from a standard 52-card pack. The players then attempt to make the highest possible five-card hand by using their own two cards and the five community cards. The hands rank in order of their odds of winning. Tie hands are broken by the highest unmatched card, or secondary pairs (in a full house).
