Poker

Poker is one of the oldest card games known to mankind. Although no one is sure of its exact origin, it is believed to have originated in Persia. There are several theories on how the game evolved, but most agree that it is a combination of several older games. Jonathan H. Green is the man generally credited with first attaching the word “poker” to the game of cheating, played with two to four players using twenty cards and only using the aces. The game was later carried over to the New World by French settlers.

The game of Poker has many variations, though they all share the same basic rules. The best poker hand consists of five cards, each with a numerical value inverse to its mathematical frequency. Players can make bets based on their hand, hoping that other players will match it. They may also bluff, betting that they have the best hand in order to win.

After each betting interval, dealing resumes. The game ends when the player with the highest-ranking poker hand wins the pot. This process may take several rounds.
