Casino

Located in one of Canada’s most famous attractions, the Niagara Falls, this casino offers an amazing view of Horseshoe Fall. It features 130 gaming tables and upwards of 3000 slot machines for players to enjoy. It also offers a variety of luxurious suites to choose from.

In addition to offering a wide range of gaming options, casinos are known for their emphasis on customer service. They often offer complimentary items to customers, and they are designed to be noisy, bright, and exciting. Some even feature stage shows and dramatic scenery to create a more exciting environment.

Gambling predates the casino as a place for people to gamble, with primitive protodice and carved knucklebones found in ancient archaeological sites [Source: Schwartz]. The modern casino, however, developed around the 16th century during a gambling craze that swept Europe. It was common for European nobles to host parties in their homes, called ridotti, where they could gamble and socialize. These parties were not considered illegal, and the casino as a central location for many types of gambling was born.

Mob money helped casinos grow during the 1950s, but mobster involvement posed problems. Legitimate businessmen were reluctant to get involved in a business with the seamy image of gambling, and mobster money could be used for extortion and other illegal activities. Eventually, real estate investors and hotel chains with deep pockets bought out the mob and began running their casinos independently. This allowed them to avoid the taint of criminal association and to maintain the integrity of their gaming operations.
