The rules of poker vary depending on the variant, but the general idea is that each player is dealt a hand of five cards. Players use these cards to form their best possible hand. Most poker games have multiple betting intervals. These intervals occur after each round of cards is dealt. After each interval, the pot is won by the player with the highest hand. This is known as the “showdown” and is often used as the final showdown in a game.

Typically, there are three rounds of dealing. Each of these rounds distributes one card face up to each active player. In the first round, the player to the left of the big blind is the first player to act.
